1. What is an electronic application?

An electronic application refers to a Patent Application filed by the Internet as a transmission medium to a State Intellectual Property Office in the form of a conforming electronic document. Applicants can submit invention, utility model and design patent applications and intermediate documents to the State Intellectual Property Office through the electronic application system, as well as international applications and intermediate documents in the national phase of China.

4. How do applicants use electronic applications?

(1) Visit the electronic application website, self-register to become an electronic application user, and obtain the user code;

(2) Log in to the electronic application website using the user code and password, and download and install the user digital certificate;

(3) Download the electronic application client, install and upgrade, use the client to edit and submit the patent application; or log in to the electronic application online business processing platform and submit the patent application online.

(4) Receiving an electronic receipt;

(5) Receive a notification and submit an intermediate document for the submitted electronic application.

5. Electronic application user registration

The electronic application user registration procedure should be handled on the electronic application website. The registration requester self-registers through the electronic application website to become an electronic application user.

If the requester is an individual, it should be registered with the ID number; if the requester is a legal person, it should be registered using the unified social credit code or organization code number; if the requester is an agency, it should be registered with the registration number of the agency. The system will return the registration result, user name and password in the form of a receipt, and will no longer issue a paper form registration approval notice.

If you register with other ID numbers, you can only register as a temporary electronic application user. You must also mail the relevant supporting documents (the temporary electronic application user account on the document) to the Patent Office for formal user registration.

6. Requirements for electronic application file format

The electronic application system supports the submission of three file formats: xml, word, and pdf. The format of the submitted documents should conform to the specifications of the "Electronic Application File Format Requirements" and "Notes on the Designation of Electronic Applications for Design Patents".

If the examination meets the requirements, the follow-up procedure for the patent application shall be submitted electronically through the electronic application client.
